One of the main reasons I started my
blog
is because I want to highlight exceptional movies, books, and shows in the speculative fiction genres that promote marginalized groups. I have now created three pages--one for
movies
, one for
books
, and one for
shows
--that list my personal favorites.
In order to get on this list, a movie/show/book has to show a certain degree of diversity. Women with agency, people of color who are more than tokens, queer people who don't end up killed as karmic punishment for their queerness, people with disabilities that fall outside the villain or victim stereotypes, et cetera. It doesn't matter how good a story is. If it only centers on the straight able-bodied, neurotypical white men, it's not going to end up on this list. (Sorry, Lord of the Rings .)

As time goes on I'll be adding more and more amazing works to these lists. So, if you and your friends decide to have a night of Netflix and chill, or you're looking for your next great read, check out these options.
