DZA Blog Anniversary Giveaway!

May 4th is the third anniversary of the Dragons, Zombies & Aliens blog. I have been truly privileged to be able to share my passion with the world, and I want to thank everyone who's been with me on this journey with free ebooks!

Through May 30th, everyone who enters the giveaway will have the chance to win four of my digital stories:

The Minnesotan Witch: a novella

"Join the DFMC, they said. It'll be fun, they said. They left out the part where I get impaled by unicorns, shot by wannabe witches, and buried under twenty feet of snow."

Nate Johnson is the rookie agent at the Department of Fae and Magical Creatures (DFMC), an underground agency dedicated to keeping the Fae world and the mortal world separate.

After almost getting eaten alive by a unicorn ("I didn't realize that I technically counted as a virgin, okay?!"), Nate and his legendary partner Agent Arnold Grant are sent to northern Minnesota in the thick of winter. Half a dozen people have gone missing, and the suspect is the mysterious, reclusive Black Witch.

But not all as is it appears, and by the time Nate manages to dig himself out of the Minnesota snow, everything he thought he knew about the two worlds will be turned upside-down.

"Tower of Dragons"

This short story is part of the ongoing Twisted Tales series, published by Sic Semper Serpent on their Patreon page here . Their description:

A tower of dragons is as awesome as it sounds.

Don't mess with the queen at the top. She doesn't need rescuing.

When her family politics get bristly, she finds refuge in reptilian ethics long thought barbaric. These scaly, flying monsters are anything but monstrous.

There's power in keeping an open mind toward others.

Still, many questions need answering.

Like, is it a tower filled with dragons? Dragons stacked on top of each other to a towering height? What is going on with all these dragons?!

You'll have to read to find out.

Diary of the Green Snake : "Tithes and Offerings"

From Sic Semper Serpent, the publisher:

This story stings like a scratch in the back of your throat.

Diary of the Green Snake is a short story series, a raw and gritty portrayal of life in the Old West, especially the long journey to California favored by oh-so-many wagon trains.

Life on the dusty trail is hard enough without a curse on your head. You see, this wagon train carries a few magic secrets.

Untamed nature has its own dark magic, and a dark history to go with it. Our pioneers are in for some supernatural surprises.

Luckily, whether they know it or not, they've got the mysterious powers of Green Snake along for the ride.

The entire ongoing series is available on Sic Semper Serpent's Patreon page here . Winners of the DZA Blog Anniversary giveaway will receive the first installment--"Tithes and Offerings"--for free.

Soulmate's Song

Soulmate's Song originally appeared in Triangulation , a yearly literary magazine with a different theme each year. The 2018 theme was Harmony and Dissonance , a natural fit.

Soulmate's Song takes place in a world just like our own, with one key difference: some people have soulmates, and they know because they can always hear their song. Match the person to the song, and you've found your soulmate!

Richmond is a young Black man in 1930's New York, and he has a soulmate. He's heard her song for as long as he could remember: a fierce, jazzy tune with German words.

When the United States joins the Second World War, Richmond signs up. He knows his soulmate is in Germany and wants to meet her. But will she be glad to meet her dark-skinned Yankee, or has she fallen for the Fuhrer's lies?
